You're Invited to our Annual Fundraiser

On February 12 and 13th Centro Santa Catalina will host our annual fundraiser. This year we will be offering a radio-play called "Rooted in Love: The Life and Martyrdom of Sister Dorothy Stang" as well as a silent auction.

Sister Nancy Murray, OP, (brother of actor Bill Murray) wrote and performs the one woman play. 

Sister Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN, was a member of the Ohio Province of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur when she left the United States to serve in Brazil in 1966. She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and entered the convent at 16 years of age. She first taught in Calumet City, Illinois and then taught and was principal in Phoenix, Arizona. On February 12, 2005, she was shot and killed on a lonely road in the municipality of Anapu, Para, Brazil. She was no stranger to violence. During 40 years in Brazil, Sister Dorothy dedicated her life to bringing faith and justice to peasant farm families in northern Brazil. She worked with them to form base Christian communities, to improve sustainable farming methods, to defend their basic human rights and work for social justice. She was instrumental in the construction of more than 30 rural schools and chapels. She was a deeply spiritual woman who was not afraid to challenge the land-greedy illegal ranchers and loggers who were destroying the Amazon rain forest. Sister Dorothy died reading from the Bible the passage of the beatitudes to the two men who killed her. Her name is listed in the book of martyrs in the Vatican. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati holds her memory as a martyr for justice.

The cost of the tickets is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for those 16 and under. Tickets may be ordered by mail or through this web site.
