Time to Choose

All twenty-five youth who  began with our new job-training program ( A Ganar) have continued through the first portion of their training. Even though at times one or the other was tempted to drop out, with the encouragement of the group no one did.

Now it is time for each to choose his/her area of study. Perla, Ana, Cinthia, Cecilia and David began their nursing training this past Monday. (Cecilia and David are the children of one of the women in the sewing cooperative.) They attend school seven hours each day and are excited about the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

Carlos and Julia have decided to study music and will begin next week. Nine others have chosen cosmetology and begin their schooling in two weeks. Six will study accounting. Others are choosing administration, human resources, mechanics and electricity.

During this next part of the training the group will continue to meet with Tomas, their facilitator, once a week at Centro Santa Catalina to support and encourage each other. Each participant will also be assigned a mentor for more personal support and encouragement. 

As the group is fond of saying to each other, "We are going to win--together!"
